Boys Hoop All-Stars

Couple things before we get to the All-You-Name-It Teams. Stevie Mejia of Lawrence Academy was named the Gatorade Massachusetts Boys Basketball Player of the Year Wednesday. The 5-foot-9, 170-pound senior point guard averaged 19.7 points, 4.3 assists and 2.8 steals per game this year. He led the Spartans (23-4) to the New England Prep School Athletic Council Class C title game, where they lost 62-43 to St. Mark’s of Southborough. Mejia is headed to URI.
You could have also given the award to 6-9 junior Erik Murphy, who led St. Mark’s to the title. Murphy had 30 in that game and is headed to Florida. He averaged about 20 and 10 this year leading his team to a second straight championship. St. Mark’s has one senior so expect the team to reach the finals again next year.

As of today, Thursday, Frontier Regional is ranked 10th in the state by MaxPreps.

Since Mohawk is the only team to beat Frontier here are other teams, separated by three degrees, which beat the team, which beat the team.
2nd degree: Mohawk lost to Pioneer and Hoosac.
3rd degree: Pioneer lost to Athol.
3rd degree: Hoosac lost to Amherst, Ludlow, Taconic, Drury, Putnam and Mt. Greylock.
Separated by four degrees adds the following teams: Turners, Greenfield, South Hadley, Hopkins, Smith Academy, Wahconah, Easthampton, Longmeadow, Chicopee, Westfield, East Longmeadow, Central, Northampton, Sci-Tech, Cathedral, Holyoke, Commerce, Agawam, West Springfield, Sabis, Palmer, Pittsfield, St. Joe’s
