Josh Beckett pitches Sox over Phillies

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - If he keeps this up, Josh Beckett won't have to worry about hearing boos anymore.

Beckett pitched 7 2-3 strong innings and Jarrod Saltalamacchia hit a three-run homer to lead the Boston Red Sox to a 5-1 win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Jarrod Saltalamacchia wanted to make sure Bobby Valentine put him in the Boston Red Sox's lineup Saturday night.

So the catcher texted Valentine on Friday night from the hospital, where he received 12 stitches after taking a ball off his ear, and told the manager that he was feeling good and predicted a homer Saturday.
