Amy Pybus' column "Reading into Hunger Games" (Gazette, May 10) makes some wonderful points about the difficulties parents face in deciding what their children should read. However, as an author of 20 novels (for children, young adults and adults), I always find myself livid when someone decides to offer an opinion about a book he or she hasn't read.

A recent letter, "Supposed demise of Social Security avoidable" (Gazette, May 11), proposes to lift the $106,000 cap on income subject to Social Security taxes so that one's entire income is taxed.

Forget gas prices. I am still trying to get used to paying over $3 for a cup of coffee.
I am alarmed that an exercise facility charges over $165 per week.
But I was stunned today to be charged 2 cents for a staple after having three pages copied at a nearby copy center. I wasn't even asked if I wanted the staple.
This is just bizarre.

The Rev. Andrea Ayvazian's column, "The Christian value of love," in last weekend's Gazette was filled with inaccuracies and unfounded judgments.
Ayvazian states that sexual orientation is a "painful divide that separates conservative Christians from progressive Christians."
