Pelham Town Meeting acts on regulating solar power installations

PELHAM - Voters approved all 41 articles - including the most controversial which dealt with solar installations - during a nearly six-hour Town Meeting on Saturday. Nearly 90 minutes was spent discussing a revision to zoning laws allowing ground-mounted solar power installations. The measure also establishes regulations for small and mid-sized solar installations. Approved by a voice vote, it will help the town qualify for state "green energy" grants.

Pelham Town Meeting to consider $3.9 million budget, green issues

PELHAM - Voters at Saturday's annual Town Meeting will act on a $3.9 million proposed town budget, consider zoning and building changes and be asked to support an effort aimed at overturning a controversial U.S. Supreme Court decision.

The meeting will convene at 9 a.m. Saturday in Pelham Elementary School. The annual town election will also be held there from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

No contested races on Pelham election ballot

PELHAM - The annual town election will be held Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Pelham Elementary School, where voters will be asked to make a change on how the town handles its stabilization fund, a mechanism for setting aside money either for unforeseen needs or for capital projects.

Meeting tonight on Pelham sewer extension, moratorium

PELHAM - Amherst and Pelham officials will host a public meeting at the Pelham Elementary School tonight at 7 to discuss the extension of the Amherst's sewer line into Pelham.

NORTHAMPTON - A local nonfiction writer is seeking the release of witness statements, instant message transcripts and police reports from the trial of David Fried Oppenheim that he maintains will explain more fully what led police to charge Fried Oppenheim with rape.

Hatfield brush fires doused

HATFIELD - Firefighters here quickly extinguished a pair of small brush fires on Reservoir Road and Mountain Road Friday, in what the town's fire chief said was a product of the dry weather.

William A. Belden said the first blaze was spotted from the Department of Conservation and Recreation fire tower in Pelham around 4:30 p.m.
