NORTHAMPTON — Joshua Keeney could have died last June, yet there he was Thursday night shaking hands with the very people who saved his life. He would have died, in fact, had it not been for the dogged persistence of a few people who happened by his horrific motorcycle accident and the quick action of the first responders of the Cummington Fire Department. "They were fast, professional and good at what they do - or I wouldn't be alive right now," said Keeney.

NORTHAMPTON - Diane Bellisario and her partner Lynne Spichiger have been together for 14 years. But Saturday was the first time Bellisario had marched in a gay rights parade. Surveying the scene at the Three-County Fairgrounds, where organizers estimated 20,000 people gathered for the 31st edition of the Noho Pride march and rally, the Belchertown couple said they were inspired to participate by President Barack Obama. The president's declaration was on the minds of many who marched down Main Street for the annual celebration of gay rights in Northampton.

This year's annual Mother's Day plant sale, held by the Friends of the Granby Public Library, will offer something new - a silent auction of birdhouses donated by local residents, including some that are handmade and decorated.
The sale is set for Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library's pavilion, rain or shine.
Proceeds benefit the library building fund.
