NORTHAMPTON — With humor and sage advice, television star Jane Lynch personalized her commencement address at Smith College Sunday with pieces of wisdom drawn from her career and personal life. "You are exceptional women. If you were not, you would not be here," Lynch told the 732 graduating students gathered one last time on the college quadrangle for their school's 134th commencement. Lynch, the Emmy- and Golden Globe-winning actress best known for her role in the television hit "Glee," encouraged graduates to face adversity and bad times head on.

The Entrepreneurial Initiative was awarded to 33 students last year to sponsor them in a wide array of endeavors. "The ideas range from plumbing businesses to high-tech consulting firms," says Linda Peters. "Some of these kids will become millionaires, but many are taking their first steps now."
