High school boys basketball: Northampton clinches Suburban title in overtime

The Northampton boys basketball team won the Suburban League title outright with its second straight  victory which required late heroics.

Jarrod Neumann made a free throw with six seconds left to force overtime and the Blue Devils dominated the extra frame to earn an 81-72 victory Wednesday night in East Longmeadow.

Freshman Jake Ross and junior Justin Burgos each scored career-highs with 25 and 24 points, respectively, while Neumann finished with 18 points and 13 rebounds.

Burgos and Neumann each scored four points in overtime as Northampton (12-8, 6-2 Suburban) extended its pressure defense and enjoyed an 11-2 advantage in the extra four minutes.

Connor Roach matched a career-best with 10 points to go with 10 rebounds for the Blue Devils, who ended the regular season by winning 10 of their final 12 games.

Mahar 59, Easthampton 51 — Casey White led all scorers with 21 points for the Eagles (13-9, 9-9 Hampshire East) in a loss in Orange. Chris Starcun chipped in with 17 for Easthampton.

Agawam 61, South Hadley 56 — Luis Agrait led the way with 20 points, but the Tigers (11-9, 6-2 Suburban) lost to the Brownies (5-15, 4-4) in Agawam. Anthony Bullough added nine points for South Hadley.
