Mabel V. Cote, Brownie leader

FLORENCE - Mabel V. (Parsisson) Cote, 99, of 42 Warner St., passed away peacefully Monday at the Overlook at Northampton, surrounded by her family.

Born in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late William and Mary Ellen "Nellie" (Ruddeforth) Parsisson.

She was educated in local schools, graduating from Northampton High School and later from the former Northampton Commercial College. She had worked summers in North Conway, N.H., later at Pro Brush, Kollmorgen Optical Co. and Northampton School for Girls.

Mabel was a loving mother and grandmother. She was a former Brownie leader, loved cribbage, croquet, sailing on Highland Lake, biking, Daniel O'Donnell videos, reading and knitting.

Her husband of 71½ years, Philip J. Cote, passed away in 2006.

Mabel is survived by her children, Donald Cote, Joanne Parsons (Ted) and Mary Stefan; her grandchildren, Mark and Steven Parsons (Cathie), Kimberly Nogueira (John) and Bryan Wood (Ana); her great-grandchildren, Xavier Trahan and Evie and Maija Wood; and her cousin, Mae Wright.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Francis and Kenneth, her sisters, Madeleine, Dorothy and Gladys, and her brother-in-law, James.

A Mass of Christian Burial for Mabel will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Our Lady of the Hills Church in Haydenville. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in Leeds. There are no calling hours. Donations in Mabel's memory may be made to the Our Lady of the Hills Church Improvement Fund, 173 Main St., Haydenville, MA 01039, or to a charity of one's choice. The Ahearn Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
